I decided to create a Varsity for the upcoming tradeshow Jacket Required, to show the many options you have when putting together a bespoke piece. We havn't done accurate maths but there is over a million combinations, its pretty much limitless, as there are so many fabric options. It can get quite tricky for the indecisive man, who tends to go all black, or get quite a few, the latter being me.

Here is the one we put together, we tried to make it quite ridiculous, but even with all panels being a different color or pattern it was still quite wearable.

A gang related movie with an all star cast, we took influence from the way they were dressed to the way each one of Rusty James gang members emotions and persona. Look forward to an eclectic collection bridging the gap, and blurring the boundaries of streetwear.

Firstly Happy New Year all!

We have quite a busy few months ahead of us. Collaboration with Dover Street Market in Tokyo, Shanghai and London is confirmed which we are extremely delighted about.

Also a Trade show. We will be doing Jacket Required, quite appropriately named as we specialise in outerwear. Being our debut trade show we are quite excited, and slightly nervous at the same time not knowing what to expect.

Hopefully we should be fully prepared for the 12th February with a strong capsule collection.

Recently we gave one of our jackets to illustrator Hattie Stewart to work her magic!

Her signature style, initially reminiscent of Keith Haring, took over the sleeves of our MB Biker, as we are quite subtle in what we do in terms of branding and print, it was nice to have Hattie add something unique to our garment. Thanks to Chloe at MY STYLIST SAYS for bringing us together.

Ok well, when it comes to shopping and brands that I strive to sit alongside then I would say Dover Street Market is probably my favourite store in London, aswell as Liberty for its whole shopping experience, (CAKE).

So to do a collaboration with what is pretty much Comme Des Garcons, and to fit in with Rei Kawakubo's concept and direction is quite amazing. It would be the greatest achievement of my young Fashion career to date.

Fingers crossed it all goes to plan.

Ok so when we find somewhere nice to eat we tend to eat it every day until we get bored, our latest venture was The Crazy Pig Cafe on Hoxton Street, fresh produce, well cooked food is always good.

All American breakfast, is my food of choice. The layers of pancake, bacon, pancake, bacon, pancake drizzled in syrup is such a mouth watering combinaton supported by a toulouse sausage and perfectly poached eggs.

Its so good it was a 'no brainer' that would be where we took our Danish friends Lisa and Silas from Soulland

We worked once again with Mikey Snaps of Vanita Modern Tailors, emphasis still on quality of fabrics, if you remember our previous pieces were made from brushed Scabal cotton.

This time we used a wool/cashmere herringbone, melton wool shoulder panel, nappa leather sleeves and Liberty print Tana Lawn lining. A wonderful combintaion.

The delayed opening of BoxPark, has been a slight blessing in disguise, aswell as getting all stock ready for the shops opening we have have been working hard on various projects and re-stocks in Japan due to a early sell-outs.

We are always on the look out for fine fabrics. North. South. East. West. We sometimes stumble across some wonderful bargains may it be Harris Tweed double width for £5 a metre or Liberty cotton for next to nothing.

We came across some amazing Dormeuil suiting. However for some reason it had been coated in what can only be described as a heavy weight cling film. So for this reason it was being sold at a nice price.

We shall be using this for a special purpose. Keep your eyes peeled.

We had a experimental Lunch trip today venturing up the road to A Little of What You Fancy.

Must say it fulfilled the hype, I opted for a chicken mayonnaise sandwich, yes I know relatively boring and safe, but it was the most delicious chicken sandwich I have had! Better then a McChicken Sandwich after a night out boozing! Fact.

We have customers all shapes and sizes, which is great as it puts what we do to the test, creating nicely fitted garments for people small, medium and big!

Bendy constructed a traditional House of Billiam Hoody, using super 140's pinstripe suiting and satin/silk lining. This was made in a 58" chest! Definately the biggest we have ever done!

Came out great. With additional elbow patches and nicely matched up lines.

When bendy tried it on, it reminded me of Tom Hanks in Big. When he returns home and turns back into a kid.

We have been in a few music videos of late, the different genre's of music really show how versatile our brand is.

The bespoke element of our brand is important, we do it exclusively in street wear, and gives us the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, we have an eclectic mix of customers and we consider ourselves as eclectic personalities with an attentive eye, for things we like and not what is considered cool and 'trendy'. This is the basis of our design process.

Was a wonderful night, the set up was great and so was the turn out. Intended on being sober but it a bit crazy towards the end of the night, drinking a shot that I can only describe as a room temperature, chilli/spicy, pot-noodle with a dash of vodka.

Met some great people, especially The Islington Twins, who were extremely knowledgeable and very positive, and at one point described me as a mastermind. Who am I to argue with their wise words ;)

BAAAHHH 100% wool jumper samples arrived today. we are happy with them. The sheep did well.

The lookbook is shaping up nicely, 9 looks I am thinking to go with are pretty strong the colour palette consists of greens, navy, burgundy, putting the looks together myself I tried to find a balance of what we do, and a flow throughtout.

Nike 1948 finally re-opened. I eagerly anticipated the opening of the concept store located in heart of Shoreditch, thats slightly tucked away on Batemans Row.

The store has new longer opening hours, and a totally new shopfit, which is surrounded by interesting stories and thought out procedures throughout. For example the floor is made from recycled shoe soles, rubber burnt down and re-created into a cushioned floor.

Not a profit driven store the product is minimal but higher end.

T&F Slack Shoes developement

After receiving our first set of samples, we realised a few things. We need alot more development to get the desired shoe. Being a nice silhouette as it is we just wanted to add subtle details to the derby.

Second samples came back. They were wonderful, one is almost ready to put into production while the other style just needs a slight tweak and we are good to go!

I have had the hologram box tee for a while now, and after a few washed it began to peel very slightly. So becoming more subtle in the way I dress I thought it would be great to fully peel away the red Supreme film that covers the hologram.

We recently did a collaboration with Dutch Tailors Vanita .

They supplied the fabric. Being people in the Industry they posted over some amazing Scabal cotton.

The pieces came out extremely nice, and better in person as then you can feel the quality of the fabric.

So recently I tried convincing myself that i'm not going to keep buying shoes and should save for 'proper things' .... but recently Nike have been dropping some pieces that I dont think I can resist, or stop thinking about. The Air Flow was one, that I blogged about earlier this month but they now will be releasing them in a tonal black colorway with a white midesole. Beautiful.

I love tonal and that colour combination on most shoes. Aswell as these the vintage Blazer colorways are real strong and also the introduction of the Hyprfuse technology in an Air Max 1 OG colorway.

T&F Slack Shoes

As we are opening a store, we decided to expand into different areas other then just clothing.

I approached a British shoe company, to talk about a collaboration. On meeting the Bespoke shoe makers T&F Slack , I realised that there approach to shoe making was similar to our garment making. Both made in the UK, both giving the option to choose your own colours and fabrics, both have really lovely people working behind the brand, anyway we thought it would be a great story and collaboration.

The shoe shape we wanted to work with was the 5 hole Derby, a greatsilhouette.The shoe is extremely lightweight using nappa leather outer and a microfibre rubber sole which for me gives it that nice streetwear element to it, and extracts the overly smartness of the shoe. We did not want to change it too much, but add a House of Billiam personality to it.

They also do custom bikes, we got a little tour of their workshop.

So we have established after 4 seasons in Japan that they are the hardest to please when it comes to manufacture quality, at first we thought maybe they are looking for sneaky discounts here and there as they would complain about things that no way would warrant a complaint of any nature.

We gradually became to realise it's the high standards that they maintain and are so regimented, militant about the products quality. It has made us step up our game in the quality control area of things and maintain a superior finish to our clothing.

Well it is sitting next to the likes of Lanvin and Balenciaga ;)

Don't worry this is not in anyway a hostile post, just trying to be clever, refering to a great steak restaurant I recently went to.

Gaucho's. Argentine Steak House you are offered the finest cut of Beef. The decor maybe a little over the top and obvious, as your surrounded by cowhide on the chairs and up the walls, but still creates a nice ambience. Was a nice occasion and thoroughly enjoyed with 3 of my favourite people.

Whilst driving back to my hometown of Leeds, Yorkshire, born and bred may I add.

I saw a wonderful automobile. The DeLorean DMC-12, also recently found out that it was made in Northern Ireland, but obviously made famous by the movie Back To The Future. I would love this car, but only a part of a fleet, more of a novelty, nostalgia piece.

Currently we are just working on new product, and sourcing certain fabrics, and looking at quality UK based manufactures, to push the brand and its British aesthetic.

This is all in preparation for BoxPark, the first Pop-Up mall, being only 1 of 4 new Brands to get a place we will be surrounded by the likes of Nike, Alexander McQueen, Levis to name a few so we are extremely excited about this prospect.

Our shopfit will soon follow, and I will keep a visual diary of this ongoing process. We have to decorate a 8ft x 40ft steel shipping container. Dieter Rams comes to mind. Minimal, less is more, generic modification is going to be the design brief.

£3 per metre! We do enjoy a bargain especially when the quality of the fabric is worth a great deal more. I cant reveal my source as you may then get there before us ;)

We are going to do a numbered release of overshirts, which will be in stock at our debut store opening September 1st, Boxpark, Shoreditch, London, but the problem came when we was thinking of how to finish, top stitch this piece, still undecided we thought it would be better to sleep on it.

Relishing a Retro

So amongst all the mayhem and busy times, i thought i'd take a little time out my wonderful opinion.

Well I have not been overly excited about the release of an OG Nike shoe for a while, but as soon as I saw the retro of the Nike Air Flow I instantly got that tingle and pause of breath that all sneaker fans can relate to, or just imagine something you materialistically love. You get the idea.

The colorways are OG also which is always nice to see, and the silhouette of the shoe is so nostalgic and perfect, I really hope it does not disappoint in the flesh.

So, as I was saying, we have had some important meetings and collaborations coming up. By the title of this blog you may know what this is about. If not then i'll let this video explain.

Its quite a big step for us, exciting and nerve racking at the same time not to mention the amount of work that is involved... we will have an interesting concept running through the store. Which will all be revealed soon, when we actually finalise our ideas!

We will be surrounded by some high profile brands, so its quite flattering to have been given a space, lunchtimes will be pretty fun too.... fully loaded salt beef bagel!

Stefano Pilati, creative director at YSL is probably going to be a bit of style icon for me come another 5 years. Effortless chic and just looks cool as pretty much all the time. My streetwear influence comes through a slight bit stronger at the moment.

I feel very proud to be of Indian descent, and inspired especially by 'The Little Master' Sachin Tendulkar. Diving on the boundary lines at 38 years of age shows how much he wanted to bring the World Cup home for India. So highly respected in Cricket and regarded as one of the best batsman to have ever played the game.

I recently worked with Aaron Lindsay from HiddenLab, a new online store selling high quality streetwear. I drew down a few ideas, using the MB Biker Jacket as a template, we added and subtracted details but keeping it luxurious in fabrics.

I was recently invited to the Nike HQ London, by good friend and Mr Nike, Nehjat Ramoth. As soon as I stepped into the premises I had severe ''Office envy'' probably due to the fact that you were surrounded by Nike yet to be released footwear and apparel and just general Nike not for sale stuff. Making you want the item more.

Anyway it so happens I was invited to receive free stuff with a swoosh on, being a Nike fanatic this was pretty much free crack to a crackhead!

Nike Sportswear support people doing their thing in London, may it be Sport, Art, Music and in my case Fashion. So I was delighted, mainly due to the recognition of my hard work. Its always nice to get a pat on the back, or a shoe on your foot.

It was a pleasure meeting Ronojoy Dam of Nike Energy Marketing who is also a fan of what we do.

Amongst the freebi's I was given the Nike Air Force Duckboot, the concept and quality of the shoe is great and will keep my feet warm and dry in this tough English climate!

I recently went on a well deserved Holiday. It was quite an experience, Mumbai, India is a weird and wonderful place where you can feel humbled and inspired continuously through out your stay. It was so nice to see family over there again, and just relax and enjoy the lifestyle.

Choose your iD-entification

I was recently invited by a good friend to the Nike iD studio on Oxford Street, London to create a pair of complimentary shoes.

As you can imagine I was very excited about this prospect, being given the opportunity to design your own Nike shoes, with added features to the regular Nike iD Studio on the first floor of the newly renovated building.

I initially wanted to the Max 90 current but it did not have the mesh feature on the front toe so i opted for my favourite Air Max shape, 87, more commonly know as the Air Max 1. I wanted something monchromatic and subtle in combination but vibrant in colour.

So I created this badboy! All red upper with crepe sole.

Here it is. We have been wanting to do this shape for a while now, a typically iconic American garment for us made most famous by Marlon Brando but thats not what the MB stands for ;)

We have took influence from the Perfecto jacket and added our streetwear twist and British aesthetic. Its a more fitted garment and has ribbed cuffs and back panel, we wanted to keep it clean and not over design the garment. We, Matharu and Bird are quite happy with the final outcome.

We tend to meet interesting characters along the way, as we offer a bespoke service we get people coming in with interesting concepts.

Photographer Jehad Nga, is one of those interesting characters whose creations are very exciting to do. Having photographed Somali Pirates, worked with Nike, Vanity Fair and various other prestigious clients he had a few impressive stories to tell.

The beauty being: we meet new creative people, they collaborate with us to create beautiful garments.

We recently made a few bits for British pop artist Tinie Tempah. His new video is based on the Billion Dollar Man and has a very 70's appeal, which is captured throughout and styled by Damian Collins.

The jackets looked great in the video. One made in monotone red and the other in navy and off white. We hope to work with Tinie and Damian again as they have a very strong creative idea of what they want.

Images from Capsule NY of our collaboration with Danish label Soulland, creative director of the company pretty much gave us license to do whatever we wanted but keeping it all black.

Features were added such as a split back panel, invisible side seam zips and cable knit rib. Focusing on quality of fabric and production once again.

Opening Ceremony have already ticked the buy box on this one amongst others ;)

First of all Happy New Year to all readers hope you had a wonderful break.

Its back to work and we have been quite busy sorting samples for Japan, collaborations and also interesting bespoke work.

Amidst all the mayhem we have been working on a biker style jacket, based on the Perfecto and taking influence from iconic wearers such as Marlon Brando.

Anyway we aimed to make it more fitted and less boxy, using the traditional House of Billiam aesthetic we feel we have created a wonderful piece, and after only 2 pattern drafts!

We have confirmed a collaboration with Liberty of London.

There will be 5 variations of the Varsity jacket, 3 with a low collar and 2 with a high collar, all with leather nappa sleeves and one them will be lined with Liberty floral fabric.

These should be in store for January.

We have been working on ribbing samples for a collaboration next year. We wanted something subtly different, and also quite detailed. So we opted for a cable knit weave in high quality fabric. For me right now its the attention to detail rather then over-designing a garment keeping it clean with nice colours and textures.

This will make an appearance next year. We hope you like as it is......

I suppose an important part of branding is the visual aspect of your labels, shopping bags and hangtags etc.

So we will be collaborating with a store, a rather BIG store in the heart of London and personally one of my favourite shopping experiences, maybe its the cake, because when it comes to cake i'm like a hungry obese child.

Anyway the new hangtags have been designed and the feeling we were trying to go for was a personal message to the buyer in a letter format, stamped and signed by House of Billiam.

We and yourself imagine the desired piece. We create and construct, taking your 2-D image to a 3-D masterpiece. We obviously tell you if your initial idea works, but you pretty much get what you want and a bag of chips. No chips really, you basically get what you want and more, made to your measurements.

Start with a blank canvas. Have an initial vision in your mind, fabric wise and any extra details you would like but be careful not to over-design. This is hardly Ed Hardy. Sophisticated, subtle touches always work better with an emphasis on quality within fabric.

More recognition, the tonal concept was something I initially researched when studying my BA. I was a big fan of Giuliano Fujiwara, and still am, you can see from post some time ago entitled color palette.

Then looked at various british themes from the Red Arrows to the Marines and tied it in with the tonal palette.

.... to Denmark would be nice. As a new store is being opened by Silas of Soulland, they will be carrying House of Billiam so it would be rude of us not to venture over for the Launch party.

Carrying other brands such as Pendleton Woolen Mills, Ann-Sofie Black and of course us, with the visions of the Scandanavian boys it should be quite a store.

Dad and son same outfits, Jordan I for when he's 1 Jordan II for when he's 2 and so on and so on the concept of having a human Ken is a little absurd but come on it comes with the territory.

Well we have been pretty busy.

Firstly getting orders into production for SS11 mainly for Japan, whilst working on bespoke orders here there and everywhere! We did a jacket for Roll Deep to be worn at the MOBO's, a trio of varsity's for girl group SoundGirl, who in my opinion should be asked to come in for a personal fitting ;)

Whilst doing this I have been drawing up AW11 which I'm pretty excited about and would say its probably our first full collection which will consist of up to 25 pieces.

Keeping the fabric philosophy and very British aesthetic were hoping it will make quite a significant impact within streetwear, any way enough of the talk here are a few images:

Bendy was recently asked to make a dress for a friend, being something very different to what we do... he took quite well to haute couture with tricky fabrics.

A very elegant high quality dress, it was executed quite well and being dress virgins we were extremely happy with the final product. We left the hem unfinished, the fraying of the silk was a nice design detail.

Womens House of Billiam on the horizon? Hmmmm.

This is extremely exciting, especially due to the fact that last few menswear collections have been amazing. With Penguin look-a-like genius at the helm, Alber Elbaz, i'm pretty sure this collection will be special, and affordable. His approach explains that H&M has become Luxury rather then Lanvin becoming commercial.

I'm pretty sure and hoping it will be a menswear collection, designed by Lucas Ossendrijver. We shall wait and see. November 23rd it will go on sale, dont expect to get it at your local H&M in Bognor Regis.

I always eagerly await the Supreme collections in particular the Autumn/Winter, probably due to the fact when I dress I like to layer up and wear a statement jacket piece. Well the collection is did not dissapoint, headgear such as woolrich driving cap and V.S.O.P snapback, the collegiate sweat are just amongst a few things I want!

The coach jackets are great too, i'm a big fan of leopard print right now and we at House of Billiam made a jacket a while ago that resembles one from this seasonsSupreme collection. We must be doing something right ;) Full lookbook can be viewed HERE.

A friend of mine asked for a varsity. He asked me to come up with a piece slightly different but with more detailing but not over the top. Knowing his style i decided to keep it very clean, and almost A.P.C like.

I added a layered back/yolk panel, a front flap i-Phone pocket, leather elbow patches, full navy melton body and arms with a polka dot lining. It was one of them ones made for a friend that you find hard to depart with. Oh well cant keep making myself look pretty.

They were done Samuel John Butt who works closely with Neil Bedford, I recently saw the contact sheet and they look extremely good. Working in the Fashion industry doesn't leave you much time to have a social life. I rarely see my good friend Triv, but he keeps letting me know he is there by sending me free shoes. What more can a friend ask for especially one with a footwear obsession. Anyway I decided to make him something in return for his generosity.
