CDG:Rei Kawakubo x H&M

Comme des Garcons bein one of my favourite design team in fashion Iwas very excited when i heard they would be collaborating with high street giants H&M. Making quality garments more affordable and attainable, well maybe attainable. Im pretty sure there will be overnight queues for this collabo and thats if it will be released in the UK.

Everyone and everything seem to be doing collaborations these days. Building hype to sell and certain collaborations appealing to different subcultures, so its a must for them to attain the goods.

from artists, musicians and companies joining forces, where will it go next.

NIKE x Adidas??? naaaa!you say that now!

A particular fan of the men and womens pea coat and also the polka dot shorts. The womens is looking very strong, the Goth x Hamish influenced dress will be a top seller in Japan im pretty sure.
Look forward to getting my hands on some of the bits. Hopefully not Ebay prices!

Resellers karma!

Coca-Cola glasses at McDonalds.

These are dope!!
Im not so sure bout eating loads of McDonalds meals to attain as many as I want! But I need every colour.

SO SUPERSIZE ME!!!!

4 down 2 to go!!

Selvage Denim

Im pretty particular when it comes to the denim I wear usually it has to be LVC, or some form of Levi may it be collaboration or actual vintage non re-pro.

Selvage denim is somethin I always look for and represents a higher grade of quality, it is a type of denim which forms a clean natural edge that does not unravel. The word Selvage comes from "Self edge" the natural edge of a roll of fabric, which is made on old style shuttle looms. The process is slower and produces less material, but the denim is regarded as more “authentic” and has more character than regular non-selvage denim, and usually demands a higher price bracket.

Brands like Edwin, LVC, Flathead and old Evisu epitimise quality and justify a higher price. Also the high street have clicked on to people thinkin they need selvage denim when they dont actually know what it means. Next, H&M have their own version of selvage denim not the same quality but very good denim.

Kiosk 78 recently opened in Leeds.

Gavin @ Kiosk78

The stores direction is heavily based on quality and more subtle street style. Stocking Parisian brand A.P.C, also Margaret Howell, Folk and Nom De Guerre amongst others it has hit a niche within the Leeds streetwear market.

Sunday Movie

Sunday. Mind is somewhat in limbo so I called upon a friend who I upset the night before to watch a movie. Something lighthearted but my lovely little friend demanded something gangster, seen as Casino was missing from my collection it had to be another Joe Pesci, Robert De Niro combination.

Goodfellas. A film directed by Martin Scorsese, based on the book Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi, the true story of Henry Hill. The film follows the rise and fall of three gangsters, spanning three decades.

also this film inspired the video for the Ashanti track Foolish

Im not going to lie. one was a fan of this track in his teenage years!

WOOOP WOOOP!

"As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster,"

Lagom 2008 Fall/Winter Collection

A strong looking collection firstly caught my eye with the watercolor splashed background. The connection between streetwear and clean cut and sew is something that i will take into my own collection.

Jam Series

I went on a little road trip to see my friend Taran's shop, he just opened A Shop Called Wood in Huddersfield.
Carrying labels such as Stussy, YMC and MHI and decor inspired by Dover Street Market, it was something refreshing for the people of Huddersfield to look at, being quite a backwards city, in my opinion, I hope his store can inspire the street wear of the Yorkshire town. They also have a store in Manchester.

So after this we took a walk up to O'Neils. A Sports Performance store hidden down a small alley one of them ones that has been there for years and has original character, so much so that when I was looking at the cricket jumpers for non performance purposes, I could smell Ian Botham!
I had heard rumours from both Taran and Lee, that there was some hidden gems that only a sneaker conisseur could understand. So Lee took me upstairs EY EY! And made me feel like a deprived schoolkid again!
Looking in the stockroom at the dusty broken boxes made me a lttle giddy. The felling of NOSTALGIA was overwhelming! Lee did the diggin while I tried to contain myself!

original Adidas Samba

Adidas Association High

Reebok Blacktop Pump

So I had to find myself a little something.
Being nicknamed Jam, due to the love of JAM!! on toast, bakewell tarts, doughnuts anything with jam will suffice, I had to bag these. Ryan Eventually digged out a pair that were not soiled and in perfect nick. Not a bad price either

Futura2000

Possibly my favourite street artist, possibly I say. He started to paint illegally on New York's subway in the early seventies. More recently, he is a successful graphic designer and gallery artist.

He worked with Ben Drury and James Lavelle for Mo-Wax records, designing the artwork for the company and its whole art direction and also for UNKLE.

He was also part of trio BSF- Bleu, Stash and Futura.

His distinctive style and abstract approach to Graffiti is one of the main reason I like his work. He has collaborated with such labels as Nike, Zoo York, Subware, Maharishi and also has his own street fashion label Futura Laborotaries. This transition from artist to fashion design is also a subject that intrests me and will be a focus of what i will look at when writing my dissertation.

here is some of his work:

December 2007 a Graffiti mural was found in Manhattan in a run down building which was been knocked down they found this inbetween the walls. Artists such as Jean Michel Basquiat, Fab 5 Freddy and Futura 2000 had all made marks on this building which was rumoured to have there work on some wall hidden within in the premises. Futura was only 16 when he tagged this wall.

A 'HOLY GRAIL' and it is a testament to the underground culture. This is incredible imagine finding this piece of history!
This would be Like finding Tutankhamun's skull in your back yard DUDE!!

a real life 'URBAN LEGEND'!!! but true!

It was exhibited at SoHo building's Gallery 151.

Futura also features in John Mayer's new video Waiting On The World To Change

Neil Bedford Photography

An urban/street inspired Photographer has worked for the likes of Nike to Stussy. Only recently graduated from University of the Arts London with first class honors he has an impressive list of clients. I admire his work as he seems to share many of the same interests and works amongst people who I regard as bein in my sub-culture so to speak.
A talented photographer BIG on the street scene in London and often used by Gimme5, he is growing in stature and boasts a proud CV. Currently doing freelance work he has also been accepted onto the MA at University of the Arts London.

Neil also recently collaborated with i-D Magazine Stepping Stone issue. Which was based around huge street artist KAWS so neil was an obvious choice to help collate a few pages for this iconic magazine.

Defintely a website well worth adding to your bookmarks and making it a daily check.

HOON 2008 Fall Collection

This Parisian label caught my eye, significantally cause of the use of PURPLE and LEATHER. Attention to little details such as gold zips and rivets also the paneled leather similar to Double Goose leather puffa jackets from the 80's.

Detailing is key and takes it to a luxury streetwear brand especially with the use of material:

their jewelerry aint too bad either.

PLEASE WATCH THIS!!

Take a look at what this guy found in his back yard!

Genius upon Genius.

I shall be basing my Final Collection and Dissertation upon Genius from all genres may it be Film, Music, Photographers, Politicians, Artists, Philosophers, Leaders and of course Fashion. I aim to cover all areas and minimalise it to the most inspirational few. What makes a genius, and who decides they are genius within their work and what they do. People who i regard as genius and also the general publics view upon that person who is regarded as a genius.

few faces I will research:

the END OF THE BEGINNING is nigh.

Music is Magic.

Music is a magical thing... how certain songs take you back to eras of your life may it be happy or sad, the Nostalgic power it holds and the how it can change your mood and play with your emotion is an incredible thing.

Heartbeats by The Knife taken from DEEP CUTS album has a certain hold on my mindstate whenever I hear it.

that sounds all a bit cheese! listen to the track!!!

It was later covered by José González and used in SONY Bravia advert:

which is your favourite version?

Nardwuar Serviette

Possibly the best interviewer ever!

He often points out my theory that Nostalgia is the most powerful emotion, He was brought to my attention via my yout Lee. His ability to stun his interviewees with his collectors item gifts that would hold a very sentimental value to the artsist or group is incredible. How he has obtained these and the length he has gone to research his subject is pretty dope. His interview manner and attire often throws the artist off, but his knowledge and collectors pieces takes the interview to a next level.
he has pretty much covered all genres of music and many top artists.

check him out on youtube NardwuarServiette

keep on rocking in the free world.
